Sustainable Flevoland
Sustainability is one of the key words in our development policy. In Flevoland, economic growth goes hand-in-hand with care for the planet. In all our economic development decisions, the impact on the environment in always taken into consideration.
Green production, clean energy and other aspects of responsible entrepreneurship are an essential part of the business culture. For many of our companies, being green is part of their daily activities. For a number of environmental-friendly business activities, there are interesting regional or national incentives available.
Special regional initiatives:
- Renewable resources
Acrres (Dutch), the application centre for renewable resources in Lelystad. Acrres is an initiative of Wageningen University and Researchcentre WUR for applied research in sustainable energy and green commodities. One of Acrres’ main fields of activity is the valorization of biomass. - Wind energy. Flevoland has over 600 wind turbines generating over 650 Mw. Over one third of all wind energy in Holland comes from Flevoland.
- Solar energy
On an island in Almere, energy company Nuon is creating one of the largest solar energy projects in Europe. The over 7,000 sq.m complex with several hundred solar panels will warm a large part of Almere’s unique central hot water supply system.
